This is absolutely outstanding. I would love the opportunity to use this as a reference for a drawing, but I read your copyright and I respect that...I've had my work stolen without permission. Seriously though, this is one of the most amazing and beautiful photographs I've seen. Props

I do grant some permissions sometimes, but it's mostly for a projects that have really driving energy put into them or for making another objects (like painting on leather).

As for referencing/influencing - I can't make anyone unsee the image, so the "ghost" of it will be always more so there. ;) But I'd really (as a lazy pencil&ink maniac) rather go for live sketching with material or scuplture - it would be more challenging to transform object into drawing. Sorry for my musings... ;)

I prefer drawing from observation as well, although a lot of times talented photographers such as yourself can capture a figure in a way that the eye couldn't, such as this. A much more conceptual photo than any life reference.

And I respect that completely, whenever I am granted permission to use an artist's work I make sure to always do justice to the original (in terms of quality and devotion). I wouldn't create a pathetic rendering of a photo someone took a lot of time and energy to originally create, you know?

The drawing I'm working on now was taken by a photographer I know, and I'm about 95 hours into it and 15% done (22"x30"). I make sure I put energy into my work. And at the same time I would never want to recreate or 'copy' a reference. Instead I aim to create a work of art parallel to it, if that makes any sense.

Oh well, maybe in the far future you could check out my work and see if i'm worthy of permission haha I'm in love with this photo still
